Are you a property manager turning over a rental? Maybe you’re a residential cleaning company in a time crunch to freshen up a property for new guests or tenants. As you know, few things are as noticeable and potentially off-putting as the musky odor of cigarettes. Whether you’re renting or selling residential property, steam cleaning is an easy, effective and safe way to eliminate cigarette smell. Below is our guide for using steam cleaners to combat cigarette odor using our SEAHAWK™ Steam Vacuum Cleaner for the Home.
Step 1: Getting Started
Be sure to wash any laundry-safe materials like clothing, linens, and drapes. Opening windows to circulate the air is also an easy first step. Finally, consider changing any air filters in your HVAC system or air purifiers.
Step 2: Steam Clean Hard Floors
Steam cleaning is great for tile, laminate, and other flooring materials. Wood floors can be especially tricky given the various nooks and crannies. Steam can penetrate all of those surfaces easily.
Step 3: Steam Clean Ceilings, Walls, Windows & Other Hard Surfaces
Next, don’t forget to steam non-floor hard surfaces. Ceilings, walls, windows, countertops, cabinets & other hard surfaces likely contribute to that pesky cigarette smell. Please check the steam cleaner settings as some surfaces –such as drywall – may be damaged by steam. Use the steamer on a low setting to minimize the moisture level, and reduce the risk of damaging your drywall.
Step 4: Steam Clean Upholstered Furniture & Mattresses
Sofas, chairs, and mattresses are next. Not only will our steam cleaners and steam vacuums help remove cigarette smell, but there’s also the added bonus of removing pet hair and other parasites like bacteria, bedbugs, and lice. Further, steam cleaning is chemical-free and safe for the household.
Bonus: Steam Clean Your Car
After you’ve removed the cigarette odor from your property, don’t forget your car! Steam cleaning is excellent for dashboards, car upholstery, and floors.
